DBS FAQ's

Welsh Athletics recognises that effective Safeguarding and First Aid is a shared responsibility across the sport. Safeguarding and First Aid training is a mandatory requirement for leader / coaches and other roles within athletics, with the level of training required determined by an individual's role and level of contact with children and/or adults at risk.

The Safeguarding and First Aid training framework has been developed specifically for athletics and is aligned with Welsh Athletics' & UKA's safeguarding and Ffirst aid policies, procedures and regulations. This ensures that the guidance, examples and scenarios are relevant to the athletics environment and the roles undertaken within the sport.

Leaders / Coaches must complete the Safeguarding and First Aid training appropriate to their role as part of the requirements for obtaining and maintaining a Welsh Athletics coaching licence. Completion of any required Welsh Athletics Safeguarding and First Aid course is also a requirement when renewing a coaching licence.

Safeguarding and First Aid training is designed to support coaches and the wider athlete support network to recognise and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns, promote safe environments and understand their responsibilities within athletics.

This module was written in partnership with the UKA Education and Welfare Sub Group. It is aimed at athlete support networks and primarily coaches as part of their mandatory training requirements.

Cost: £12.50

RPL is a process aimed at recognising, assessing and confirming the competencies a learner has obtained from other sources. RPL assessment enables learners, where appropriate, to forgo training (or elements of it) and move directly to having their competencies assessed. Although RPL is not necessarily a quick process, it aims to provide applicants (learners) with a flexible approach to having their skills and knowledge assessed against learning outcomes and assessment criteria.
